The Dead Sea Scrolls are currently on exhibition at the California Science Center, so I went today with 2 of my nearest and dearest.
It was an interesting and unexpectedly emotional experience for me. I mean it's just a bunch of old paper, right? I didn't expect to be so overwhelmed with the idea that some of these scrolls were around and in use when Jesus was still walking the earth.
It's really fascinating to see these bits of scroll and pieces of clay from so long ago. There were bits of pottery and housewares. There was a display on the 10 commandments and where they showed up in one of the scrolls. There was a lot of history written on the plaques describing the context of the items on display.
The final thing on display was a live-feed of the temple wall in Jerusalem. It's about a 10 or 11 hour time difference, and it was really mesmerizing to watch the huge number of people still at the wall, even at that time of night.
